Arvind, you are so right.
I would challenge any person who defends nuclear weapons or deems them necessary to a debate. The debate venue would have to be the peace park in Hiroshima. I challenge anyone to walk through the museum and peace park without being moved to tears. Very little moves me but I was humbled and shamed by the fact that we still have these weapons and consider using them, I have been there three times - I was that moved by it, but it is a place everyone should visit at least once.

Considering the catastrophic effect Chernobyl had does anyone actually consider there would be a 'winner' in a single nuclear event let alone a war.
The current 'threat' as we are constantly reminded is not based in any state so how would a nuclear weapon help.
I have heard talk from the US and UK about the 'China' threat. Can anyone tell me who they have 'threatened' in the past 500 years, this is a race who built a wall to keep the hoards out and burnt all their naval ships in the 1500's, also the economic growth and trade China has meens a war is pretty much impossible.
Why are we not spending the 25 billion on renewable energy and generally combatting the environmental issues facing us? How come nurses only get 1.9% pay yet the government was told 2.5% minimum. We are always told about funding issues yet we suddenly find money to invade Iraq and money for nuclear weapons, to top it all we let an idiot like Bush have the button. I wouldn't trust him with a childs cap gun.
We all need to search our concience about this, certainly my visits to the museum in Hiroshima helped me make my mind up.
