Food for the Body & Soul and “Fit Enough for the Gods.”

food fit enough for the gods!

Food is what sustains us all but why not also delight all your senses at the same time!? Anything you eat should be good for the body & soul and fit enough for the gods.

This week I am honoured to be hosting the Carnival of the Recipes and what a wonderful set of divine and mouthwatering recipes are coming your way :-)

1. To start with, please do check out the recipe for Amenana food of the Gods from my own blog. I made this dish again last week and it is absolutely divine!

2. Sol Shah emailed me his favourite Khichdi Kadhi recipe, India’s number one comfort food :-)
3. Deirdre Dee (zosha) presents her recipe for Beer Pan Bread . Not something you can make during a youth-group camping trip, but it sure is good.

She even shares with us this pearl of wisdom - “Blessed be the flexible, for they shall not be bent out of shape” !!!

4. Stephanie presents Curried Chickpeas I agree with Stephanie when she says “Hurray for Curry!” Like me, she loves all the spices and flavors that are used in Indian cooking. Try it with Indian flat bread or serve it over rice.

I do believe Indian cooking is much simpler than people think, so start today with Stephanie’s recipe and you will not look back.

Indian food is truly divine - how else can you feed all those millions of Indian gods?!

5. Riannan presents sumptious oven-dried tomatoes I am sure to make these very soon.

6. DeputyHeadmistress presents Indonesian Supper. Being a vegetarian, I love tofu and in this receipe she outlines how to create firm tofu. Try out this recipe if you think you do not like tofu because of the texture!

7. Expat Chef presents A Large Basket and an Open Mind. There are some unique and original recipes for vegetables. You will never again stick with just cabbage and potatoes.

8. Talking of vegetables and being original, Simply Cooking presents quick ideas for grilling vegetables.

9. In case it is getting hot out there for you, Marsha Hudnall presents Healthy Recipe for Chilled Raspberry Soup. This is a cool and healthy recipe that’s perfect for lingering on the patio on those muggy evenings.

10. To add some colour to our carnival lAnne-Marie presents Mango-Black Bean Salad.

Black beans are a terrific source of fiber and are loaded with antioxidants - just in case the gods ever need to detoxify :-)
11. Anne-Marie also presents a second recipe It’s all about the cheese in Gruyère. Here she talks about her visit to Switzerland and sampling Gruyère cheese. It is enough to make you want to pack your bags and check it out for yourself!

I visited myself many moons ago and I can still smell the cheese.

12. Annette Berlin presents Deli Pasta Salad. She invented this recipe herself - and it’s really good!

13. Talking of salads, Batya from Israel has chipped in with some yummy ideas for seasonal salads.

14. Martin Westwood presents his recipe for Grilled Corn. With summer now finally here in London, I am sure to grill some corn very soon.

15. Experimenting with omelet alternatives, Monica presents Besan Cheela with Cilantro-Mint Chutney.

The cheela is made by whisking chickpea (gram) flour and water, adding sweet peas, onion and spices, then cooking on a hot skillet for a few minutes on both sides. This recipe certainly looks adventurous. And I could have the Cilantro & Mint Chutney on its own or on some bread.

16. Kevin Menard presents a meat free dish specially for Haley!

17. In case all the divine vegetarian recipes above were not enough, Shawn Lea has suggested a number of Vegetarian recipes from Vegetable Love by Barbara Kafka

18. Finally, to round things off, Gerry presents some mouth-watering, healthy sweet treats

Enjoy!

Next week’s carnival will be hosted at www.thriftymommy.com - in honour of the start of summer, she wants all of your best grilling recipes. Please submit your recipes to recipe.carnival@gmail by 12 p.m. CST, next Saturday, 9th June.

And of course if you would like to host a future carnival, please send an email to the same address with the word host in the subject line.

    Don’t forget Tom Yam soup.
Ginger (actually Galangal), lemon grass, chilli, garlic, mushroom, tomato and prawns (optional), fish stock and a few lime leaves - simplicity itself.
Always gets my vote and has also won over my Chinese girlfriend to Thai food.
