A while ago I urged people to zap their phone, not a child.
In the UK, it has now been illegal to use your mobile handset whilst driving since December 2003, but I still see so many drivers every day not heeding the law.
Yet another motorist faces jail today for having caused death of a pedestrian via reckless driving. Teenage motorist, Rachel Begg is due to be sentenced today pleading guilty on 25th June at Newcastle Crown Court to causing the death of Maureen Waites, whilst sending a text message on her mobile phone.
However, there comes a time in our lives when we just have to take a stand, take action and do something about what bugs us.
To me, it is all about Personal Social Responsibility – each one of us taking responsibility for our effect on society and everyone around us.
I am pleased to announce the launch today of a simple car sticker which I believe will eliminate or limit the danger posed by drivers using mobile phones.
I got so frustrated at seeing so many motorists continuing to use mobile phones whilst driving that I thought I just had to do something about it. One day I was driving along in a slow moving London traffic queue near a school and there were 3 motorists around me using their phone even though it is now illegal and highly dangerous to do so.
It was in that moment that the idea for a hard hitting car sticker in the back window came to me. I just wanted to tell all these motorists to “zap their phones” and to think about the lives of the children around them.
The stickers have a simple message “Zap your phone, not our children” and are available from www.zapyourphone.com – they have been designed in a glowing yellow colour for maximum visibility and impact.
I want to spread my message about refraining motorists from using the mobile whilst driving, as widely as possible and I shall be using various social networking groups and blogs to spread the word.
I believe that my simple sticker idea will save many lives and injuries. Every car in the country should have one in its back window 
So next time you are driving along and you see this flashy yellow sticker in the back window of the car in front of you, take heed and refrain from using your mobile. But then again if you are one of my readers, you would not be using the phone anyway whilst you are driving. Or would you?!

Arvind, a great simple idea to remind people how easy it is to break the old habit… to save lives. As they say: Everyone counts so let’s look forward to safer driving and less deaths on the road.

I cycle most days to work and around London and although i think the streets are generally getting safer as there is greater awareness amongst drivers about cyclists, i certainly agree it is incredibly dangerous for drivers to use their mobile. Very loud music in cars can also dull the driver’s senses. The sticker is a great idea.
