Even the Burmese Monks are human too :-)

peace and tranquility personified

The world has been amazed with the courage shown by the monks in Burma over the last few days. They have risked their lives and limbs to protest against the military dictators and sadly many have made the ultimate sacrifice.

Peace march for Burma - every voice and every step counts

time get behind the people of Burma

A couple of days I go I wrote how it was time to support the people of monks and people of Burma.

Well, today I was able to put my words into action as I marched through central London along with around an estimated crowd of 3,000 people.

Time to support the Monks and People of Burma

awesome courage, lofty hopes, justice will prevail

We are right now living through a major turning point in history. As we all anxiously watch and await the unfolding events in Burma, I feel that the world will never be the same again. With the advent of the internet, video technology and email, it will be virtually impossible for a military government to continue to subjugate the whole of a country’s population.

The Littlest Things can make the Biggest Difference

just a smile can make a big difference!

As we all try to improve our lives and the world around us, it is important to remember that the littlest things make the biggest difference. So often we look for the big act or the largest perceived reward before doing anything.

Here is a famous story called “An Elf’s Tale” by Tyree Dillingham. Though it has a christmas flavour to it, the story has universal appeal. Enjoy.

Education dashed to ashes - Time to Make Things Happen

arvind's school burning down

Earlier this year I visited my old school after almost 20 years and delivered a few workshops to students about to make their career and university choices.

Yesterday I was again visiting my family in Coventry when my old school was devastated by fire. The smoke was visible from miles and today some of the buildings are just a pile of burning rubble. The gymnasium, sports hall and squash courts where I spent many a happy hour in my school days are no more.

Time to Make Things Happen

time to jump and make things happen

A week ago, Anita Roddick passed away and left a massive void in the world of compassionate and go getting people.

I had the privilege of hearing her talk twice in the last 12 months, and both times her commitment and passion for what she does shone through. She took no prisoners and said what she meant without mincing any words.

The Legacy of 9/11 - Peace in our Time?

make peace amongst all the children of the world

Today is the 6th anniversary of 9/11, that fateful day when 2 planes demolished the World Trade Centre in New York.

Everyone remembers just where they were when they heard the news. I was working in the City of London and watched the world changing events unfolding on a screen at a hairdressing salon. There was an eerie silence all around as we watched in shock and hardly comprehending just what was happening.

Krispy Kreme Doughnut Sales Dipping - a Sign of Things to Come?

Not so appealing so anymore :-(

Krispy Kreme doughnuts can be seen in many UK high streets and also sold in UK supermarkets. But as people wake up to just what’s good and what’s not good for their bodies, it is debateable just how well such food products will do in the future.

So right on cue I have just learnt that Krispy Kreme are having serious problems in the USA and UK..

Detox your Body to Get the Life you Love

It is time to detox your life and your body

It is another glorious sunny day in London as I write this.

September seems to be the new August as far as sunshine in the UK is concerned. I look forward to many more summer days like this before autumn sets in with its beautiful colours and refreshing winds.

There is definitely freshness and new energy around as I begin my week back on “normal” food, having been on a detox fast since last Monday.

Mother Teresa on Loneliness, Love and Peace

mother teresa preaching peace

Mother Teresa left behind many poignant and deep quotations about LOVE.

The common theme of her words reflect her work with the lonely, the sick, the dying and the destitute. Her unending love came through in her work and in her words. She was forever compassionate towards the loneliness felt by “wealthy” people who on surface had it all. She was also very concerned about the breakdown of families.

Here are a selection of her words which say it all:-

What would Mother Teresa say about the last 10 years?

Mother Teresa's joyous smile

It is ten years today since Mother Teresa passed away amongst her favourite people - the dying and destitute of Calcutta.

As she passed away the same week as Princess Diana, it seemed at the time that her passing away was hardly noticed. Yet, here was an amazing human being who spent decades helping the lonely, the poor and the dying in the worst possible environment for such humanity.

Time to Detox and Start Fresh

food, glorious food!

I recently attended a seminar on healthy eating by my friend Peter Pure.
Yes, that is his real name :-)
