Mother’s Day – a Time to Celebrate and Honour your Mother whilst you still can
It is mother’s day on Sunday in the USA and also many other countries around the world, thought here in the UK we normally have it in March.
A year later and how my life and my outlook have changed! Now my focus is on celebrating and honouring your mother whilst you still can.
My father suddenly passed away last December and my mother is now the pivotal figure in our lives. The last five months since our great loss have been a haze and it is only now that I am able to get moving again with my life.
How to be Really Cool to be Kind!

I have often written here about compassion and kindness on my blog.
A while back I wrote about how to carry out random acts of kindness every day and how each act of kindness leads to another.
Being kind to someone is always a win /win situation. The person you are being kind to benefits through your help. You feel good for having helped someone. And the world is a better place through your kindness. Every little bit helps.
Make Things Happen with some Silence
I have been away from the world of blogging for a few days and am back now with renewed vigour and more ideas. One of the things I have done over the last few weeks is to spend a lot of time on my own and in silence.
I have always enjoyed my company and some friends used to think I was lonely. But there is a huge difference between being alone and choosing to spend time in solitude than being lonely! I find that by allowing time for myself and doing things that I really want to do, I feel refreshed and I re-connect with the real me. Also, it is about self-respect and self-love and treating yourself as you would treat your best friend.
Life is so short and our time here is so precious, so why spend time doing something you would rather not?
Muhammad Yunus - Creating A World without Poverty
Last Saturday I was lucky enough to hear live a lecture by Professor Muhammad Yunus at the wonderful St James Church in Piccadilly London. Professor Yunus was honoured and recognised for this life changing work amongst the poor of Bangladesh with the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006.
I was especially lucky to have had front row seats – and you can see more pictures on my Facebook profile.
It was quite an inspirational day - here was an amazing man with the lofty ambition of eliminating poverty from the world and to one day make it simply non existent - so that we would need “Poverty Museums” to show future generations what life used to be like for the majority of people on earth. They will wonder why poverty existed so long in humankind – and how there could have been so much inequality in the world.
That really is a question that bugs me too so often – why is there so much poverty and inequality in the world. And more importantly what we can do about it?
Valentines Day 1 – Just WHAT is Love?
It is Valentine week, and as usual in the Western world we are bombarded with all sorts of commercial pressure to go out and spend a fortune to show the true merit of our love for someone.
I am guessing that this is now also the case in the rest of the world, as the developing world clamours to catch up with the “enlightened” ways of the West
I find it amusing to see so many people rushing around to prove their true love for that “special” person in their life.
To me, love has been commercialised to the extent that we have forgotten just what love means anymore.
Live your Best Life as per your Father’s Wishes
Over the last few days I have finally got back into the stride of things and getting on with my life once again after the sudden passing away of my father.
It has been a slow but comfortable process and what I have learnt is that I could simply not have hastened this in any way. Try as I could I just could not summon up the energy I needed.
In the last two months I have experienced quite a cocktail of emotions, ranging from utter desperation, sadness, remorse and then gratitude, joy, love as memories of my father and the knowing that he was no longer around kept cropping up.
Lessons in Compassion from my Father
Just over a month ago, my father suddenly passed away after a short bout of flu and a chest infection. The time since then has been rather tender and yet surreal as we come to terms with our great loss.
It seems only yesterday that I wrote about Father’s day and how it was time to remember just what your father has done for you
What has kept us going during our time of grief has been the support and love from so many friends and family. It is amazing just what compassion and kindness people are capable of showing at such times.
Be Sure to Nurture Deeper Friendships in 2008
During the last few weeks of grieving for my late father, we have received so much kindness and love from many friends and family.
It truly is amazing just what compassion and kindness people are capable of showing at such times.
A friend sent me the following verse from Kahlil Gibran which perfectly sums up just what friendship means at any time in our life:-
Thanks Giving Article 4 – Serve others
The 4th and final article in my series on thanks giving is all about serving others
We all have deep within us this calling and a capacity to help others, to make a difference in some way and to make ourselves count.
I always had this urge even when as a child but the urge got submerged as I got on to the treadmill of life. But in recent years, I have got involved with Nirvana School and other charities directly and indirectly.
Thanks Giving Article 3 – Improve all your Relationships
So how was thanks giving day for you?
Being in such close proximity of family and friends did anyone have a fallout or argument at anytime?!
The third article in my series of 4 articles on thanks giving is all about improving our relationships with each other and to review how we all get on with each other.
I believe that if we improve the one to one relations with all the people around us, ultimately relationships on a global level will also improve.
Thanks Giving Article 2 - Give and Receive
Happy Thanks Giving Day!
Wherever you are in the world celebrating thanks giving day, have a wonderful time with your family, friends and loved ones.
On this special day, you may give and receive gifts on this special day. It is therefore important to learn to give and also to receive.
The second of my series of 4 articles for thanks giving week is all about giving and receiving.
Do you look to help others in any way you can? Or do you tend to look out just for yourself?
Just What is Your Purpose?
Facebook and other social networking groups are the buzz at the moment. But am I the only one who feels a bit overwhelmed and a little bored with such websites?!
I much prefer the face to face interaction but every now and then I get connected to someone inspirational and who is making things happen for themselves and the world.
Hope for Peace, Asha for Peace :-)
Isn’t it funny how the most casual of connections can lead to something major, and possibly life changing?!
About 6 months ago, at a fashion event, I met someone called Asha (which literally means hope).
Well, we became friends and today I am proud and honoured to announce a new peace song just launched for Christmas by Asha called “Asha for Peace”.
Examine and Experience Life for Yourself
I have just received a stunningly beautiful thank-you card from some friends who recently came to mine for lunch.
Isn’t it just wonderful when people go out of their way to show their appreciation?
Everyone’s a Winner…
Here is a story that has been doing the rounds of the internet and email for many years. Though I am not sure whether this is exactly what really happened or if at all, it does have a wonderful message for all of us.
It reminds me of the old adage that you can get everything you want in your life, by helping others get what they want. So take what you can from this story, regardless of whether it is fact or fiction:-
How to be Popular!
I recently wrote about how the human touch was so vital in networking.
On a related theme, a while ago I was interviewed for a magazine article about how to be popular. Here are my tips on how to do just that:-
Forever Friends
Later on this afternoon I will be saying a few words at the memorial service for a dear friend who passed away a few weeks ago.
Just how do you acknowledge 20 years of friendship in 3 minutes?!
Networking - Why the Human Touch is still Key
Are you increasingly socialising and networking with other people online?!
With the advent of social networking website such as Facebook and MySpace, people are spending more and more people time communicating with each other online.
We are all now so interconnected and with the advent of email and the internet, we are only a few keystrokes away from anyone else in the world.
