50 Ways Coaches and YOU Can Change the World!

Jason Chan at 12.12.12 Celebration

Can you remember ONE moment in time when your life changed forever?

Some of you may have heard stories of people who had an epiphany moment and their lives were never the same again. They then simply up their roots, follow their calling and decide to take on the world on their own terms.

Well, that’s just what it happened to me over 10 years ago when I was visiting Nirvana School in South India. Ever since I experienced unconditional love for the first time in my life, I have been a transformed human being.

Do check out the full story of exactly what happened to me that day. The rest is history as my involvement with Nirvana School ultimately led me to pursue a career in coaching, writing, blogging, publishing books and public speaking.

So my personal transformation has impacted not only the Nirvana School children but the many people who have read my books, subscribed to my blog and have been personally coached by me.

Never under-estimate the power of a single moment!

We can all do so much for the world around us if we choose to do so.

And we can all dramatically improve our own life if we really want to.

Recently, when I was looking back on this year and planning for 2013, I got present to just how much I enjoyed coaching and transforming people’s lives. And I intent to take my coaching practice to a new level in 2013.

More on that later but this brings me on nicely to today’s blog post and to one of my mentors from 10 years ago when I first got into this thing called “coaching”.

C. J. Hayden is one of the most experienced coaches in the world – thousands of other coaches have benefited from her pioneering work and deep experience of what it takes to coach powerfully.

She approached me earlier this year asking if I wanted to contribute to her new book – “50 Ways Coaches Can Change the World” (Amazon USA / Amazon UK)

Of course I jumped at the opportunity – it was an honour and privilege to be asked to be amongst 50 coaches from around the world featured in her book.

The result is a stunning little book packed with literally hundreds of ideas for you and me to change the world. Despite what the title may indicate, the book is aimed for everyone and not just coaches – it’s a little “bible” and compilation of ideas to help you make a difference in the world.

To me it shows once again that you don’t need to be a “coach” to change the world – you just need the desire and willingness to do so!

So please do check out the book online (Amazon USA / Amazon UK) – and let me know how you get on.

21 Reasons Why We Should All Embrace the London 2012 Olympics

What’s the biggest party you have ever attended?

Well, I am all excited and ready for the biggest event in London in our lifetime!

Unless you have been hiding in a cave for the last few months, you would know that London is holding the 2012 Olympics. And now we are just hours away from the Opening Ceremony.

It all began as the Ancient Olympic Games as a showcase of the prowess of Greeks and were held in Olympia.

But the event about to kick-start in London is now a huge monolith which has involved the efforts of literally millions of people over the last 7 years since London was given the Olympics that fateful day in July 2005, just a day before 7/7.

Here in central London, I can really feel the excitement building as the torch makes its final journey through the City today in readiness for the opening tomorrow.

And yet, it’s also a little subdued as many Londoners seem to have left the City to avoid the expected crowds, congestion and traffic chaos. Also, quite rightly there have been concerns about the security, the ticket allocation, the heavy-handedness of the “licensing police” and so on. I’ll come to those later.

I for one am really excited about the next few weeks and plan to thoroughly immerse myself in the many sporting and cultural events happening around London.

Here are my reasons why we should all embrace the London 2012 Olympics:-

How to Be a Good Parent, Even if You Don’t Have Any Children!

mother's day joy!Do you live your life as an example to the children around you?

Are you really the sort of role model you want your children to emulate?

Children are not just our future – they are our present too. The way we bring them up and the example we set is going to dictate just what sort of human beings they become one day.

In my last post about being the change before it was too late, I mentioned my vision of creating a world where children no longer died of starvation.

Let’s face it – with all the challenges the world faces today, it can be really tough for children discovering themselves and finding their own path. In some parts of the world even getting through another day is a challenge.

And yet children always inspire me and give me a lot of hope for the future.

Some children are born fighters.

Earlier this week, I had lunch with my friend Evelyne Brink. Her son Tuffel is now 6 months old and is truly a miracle baby – he was born without any bowels and still has a number of tubes sticking out of him and will continue to do so for a long time. He is truly blossoming and basking in all the love around him.

Yesterday, I met up with another friend Phil Bolton whose son is now 7 months old – and he very proudly showed me his son’s photo. Phil is a tall and rugged looking guy – and it was so moving and a bit amusing to see him gushing and going gaga over his son’s photo.

Hm. All these babies showing up in my life. Wonder what the Universe is trying to tell me!?

Be the Change You Want to See in the World – Before it’s Too Late

Gandhi 140 years young

Today is the 7th anniversary of 7/7 – the day that changed the lives of many Londoners for ever.

7th July 2005 was the day when 4 separate bombs led to 52 deaths and over 700 injured.

The bombings came a day after London was awarded the 2012 Olympics – and here we are today, less than 3 weeks away from London’s biggest event ever.

I can already feel the excitement really building in my home City – and one thing Londoners do well is to party and arrange global events as witnessed by the recent Diamond Jubilee celebrations to mark the Queen’s 60 years on the throne. We are ready to party big time!

It’s incredible how quickly the years have gone by.

The key question for me is what’s really changed for us since then and if we have learnt our lessons from 7/7?

Surprisingly, I have seen very few references to the 7th anniversary of 7/7 – and perhaps here in London, we are all just focussing on the forthcoming Olympics.

For me, despite all pain and anguish, 7/7 offered us a lot of hope – and this is what I wrote 5 years ago about hope from the heartbreak of 7/7.

Hope from the Heartbreak of 7/7

What we need today is more people who have a vision for a better world – and they are doing something about it.

What we need is to be THE change we want to see in the world. Before it’s too late.

Positive change in the world begins with me and you.

“My vision is that one day generations of children to come will ask their parents if something called “war” ever existed. They will wonder if people really did blow each other up in cold blood, and how humans ever let that happen in the first place. They will also ask if children really died due to a lack of food.” – Arvind Devalia

What’s YOUR vision for the world?

When will you begin to manifest it?

How to Climb Your Summit Again and Again

Senator Omer Rains climbing another summit

When you face a challenge in your life, do you keep going? Or do you just give up?

So many people just give up. Or they look for excuses for their failure.

“No matter how dark things seem to be or actually are, raise your sights and see possibilities – always see them, for they’re always there.” ~Norman Vincent Peale

At those times when I face a major challenge, I learn from others and look for examples of how others have dealt with such challenges.

Today, I am delighted to bring to you the story of a man who has conquered many challenges and is taking on even more.

Why Death is the Great Arbitrator

Do you live your life as if you will live forever?

So many of us go through life without sparing a thought for tomorrow or the people to come after us.

We forget that each of us only has so much time on this planet.  And this planet only has so much resources for our consumption.

“Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s need, but not every man’s greed”Gandhi

I have just had a sad reminder of how fragile and delicate life can be. One of my uncles passed away last week, just two weeks after being diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour. It’s still unbelievable that he’s gone just like that.

This is a really tough time now for my uncle’s immediate family – but his spirit, memories and legacy will always live on.

Find Your Fire – and Light Up the World!

Warning: – This post may fire you up like never before.

Reading this could change your life and make you do things you had never thought possible.

“The ones who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones that do” Steve Jobs

When I was a young boy, I was going to change the world.

To start with, I was going to eradicate world hunger. Then get rid of nuclear weapons.

Then I was going to go around the world, taking a stand for world peace and social injustice.

I was like a dragon with fire. Fierce. Unstoppable. Ready to take on the world. And change it forever.

So what happened?

Life happened.

I got on the treadmill of finding a job, earning a living. Getting married. Getting divorced. Buying a big house and a fancy car.

Somewhere along the way, my dragon’s fire got quenched.

Does that sound familiar?

Perhaps it even sounds like you?

Whatever happened to your fire?

Time to Shake The World: If YOU Don’t, Who Will?

Do you shake the world through the job you do?

Just how will you make an impact in the world in the years to come?

A few weeks ago, I read a wonderful,  newly published book – Shake the World (Amazon USA/Amazon UK) by James Marshall Reilly which really resonated with me.

The tagline to the book is:

“It’s not about finding a job, It’s about creating a life”

Shake the World looks into and reveals the reasons underlying the meteoric rise of a new generation of business leaders, such as Tony Hsieh of Zappos, Jessica Jackley of Kiva and Shawn Fanning of Napster. And many others.

Embracing a shift in generational values, these young people share a passion for driving powerful global change while creating sustainable organizations that often blur the old boundaries between business and philanthropy.

James Reilly has truly captured the insights of these brightest business and nonprofit leaders.  And he learned that despite their different fields, they’re all using similar tools to seize opportunities and redefine success.

He suggests that to really “make it happen” these days, you need to break the old corporate mold, ignore the rules, and create your own opportunities.

Time to Be Bold and Play Big in 2012!

I have a BIG dream!

Today I am interviewing Tess Marshall from The Bold Life on her new e-course, “Take Your Fear and Shove It: How to Be Bold, Play Big, and Shine Bright”

This is in line with my intention to help all of you live a BIG life in 2012 – check out my special post:-

Why You Should Make 2012 all about YOU.

Welcome Tess!

 1. How did you become so bold?

I grew up on a produce farm with nine siblings. We were all very competitive for our parents love and attention. It was speak up or lose out. We also worked in the fields and at the Farmer’s Market when we were young children. Again we had to speak up, being bold was a necessity. We became experts in sales by the time we were 13 years old!

Those skills have benefited me in ways I couldn’t imagine then…

Why You Should Make 2012 all about YOU

Happy New Year everyone!

We are now well into 2012 and perhaps like most people you have started planning for a “new” you in the New Year.

Just what do you want from the coming year? How sure are you to achieve your New Year resolutions?

You may have thought up a few New Year resolutions, but like most people some of you may have already let these go!

Firstly, you may have noticed that there has been so much talk of 2012 being a year of major shifts in the world with a lot of talk of doom and gloom.

But just know this – you don’t have to listen to all this negative talk!

Remember that there’s so much goodness out there and so many opportunities to prosper, thrive and be successful. It’s just up to you to focus on that and make the good things happen.

So the first point I emphasise for 2012 is that it’s up to you to make the best of your life this year, and indeed any year.
