I recently received one of those emails which really warms your heart and inspires you with the kindness and self sacrifice some people put in for others.
I met my friend Ivan at his farewell party when he left London for Uganda in August 2005. He has now been there for almost 18 months and has had mixed luck with his travel company. But whilst he is in Uganda, he is putting so much back into the local community – both in Uganda and other African countries. Before Christmas 2006, he sent out an appeal for donations with which he could buy food supplies for children in Namibia.
Here is Ivan’s latest email:-
Hello everyone,
I decided to drop an email to say thanks to everyone who replied to our Christmas email to donate food to kids in Namibia.
I just wanted to spend few words about a new initiatives that we are going to start.
On 2nd February, I have been invited by one Himba chief to spend one week on a traditional Himba village in North Namibia to learn as much as possible about their culture and at the same time try to understand the dangers and challenges that they are facing.
This is a great honour for me as not many people have a chance like this.
At the end of this experience, I will write some material about conservation and challenges of modern life for the Himba, plus I will prepare some sustainability itineraries and volunteer projects to include it.
Thank you for your support and please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any question, idea or want to help in any way. I also welcome you to forward this email to anyone who could be interested.
Ivan
